New Bike!

I just found some really old pictures which I thought would be fun to look at...  These demonstrate my love of bicycling and a period in my life when I was a competitive athlete.  Each picture is followed by a short note.  [AUB stands for my first Alma Mater: the American University of Beirut.]

.

Left to right: Fawzi, Elie, Azmi (my  bother) and Rimon.  The date of this picture is sometime in the mid 1950s.  We were on an 80 mile trip from my village in the mountains (4,000 ft elevation) to the Mediterranean to visit my cousins.  Total climb about 5,000 ft on really heavy bikes with only one gear!

In 1960 I did not win the 100m race for my College of Engineering at AUB.  Here you see the finish line, I came in second hence the comment "A bit more effort."  The referee is holding the stop watch.

.

The registrar spelled my last name "Imad" which was AUB spelling. "Name as student wants it" is Emad (which is how it appears on all my diplomas and other official documents.)  This picture is from the 1961 AUB Yearbook when I graduated with a BSEE degree.
